India's camel population faces a sharp decline due to reduced breeding, habitat loss, and socio-economic shifts. However, Sarhad Dairy in Gujarat's Kutch region is spearheading a revival. By establishing a market for camel milk and a cooperative for aggregation, they are creating a sustainable solution.

The Government of India supports this initiative, promoting camel milk to help revive the declining camel population. The FAO assists by replicating this successful model in other parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
