On International Parliamentarism Day, FAO's Rene Orellana Halkyer reaffirmed the organization's commitment to strengthening parliamentary efforts for a world without hunger. FAO believes parliaments are vital for building efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems. When the right to food becomes law, it establishes state policies benefiting current and future generations.

For over fifteen years, FAO has supported the Parliamentary Front Against Hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean, a network of 25 parliaments that has driven over a hundred food security laws. This initiative expanded in 2024 with the Ibero-American and Caribbean Parliamentary Alliance for Food Security, uniting parliamentary networks from Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Portugal, with FAO as its Technical Secretariat. The "Food First Pact" further consolidates this legislative agenda, aiming for the III World Parliamentary Summit Against Hunger.
