Dow Chemical, known for products like Dursban, Napalm, and Agent Orange, is now entering the food business. The company seeks government approval for genetically engineered (GE) corn and soybeans designed to withstand repeated dousing with 2,4-D, a component of Agent Orange. This raises significant concerns about trusting Dow Chemical with our food supply.

In May 2013, the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of biotech giant Monsanto, concluding a patent case against Indiana farmer Vernon Bowman. The high court determined that 75-year-old Bowman violated Monsanto’s patent rights by planting seeds purchased from a grain elevator.

Annemarie Colbin, Ph.D., is the Founder and CEO of the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts in New York City. Established in 1977, it is the oldest natural foods cooking school in the US.
A prolific writer, Dr. Colbin has authored four books and a bimonthly column for New York Spirit magazine since 1988. Her extensive bibliography also includes numerous magazine articles and anthology chapters.
Green City Growers Cooperative, an employee-owned Cleveland business, is set to harvest its first crops. This 3.25-acre hydroponic operation, located off East 55th Street in the city's Central neighborhood, is one of the largest urban greenhouses in the country.

TED Fellow Marcin Jakubowski is open-sourcing blueprints for 50 farm machines, enabling anyone to build their own tractor or harvester. This initiative, launched in April 2011, is the first step in a larger project to create an instruction set for an entire self-sustaining village, with an estimated starting cost of $10,000.

The mother-daughter duo concludes that "hunger is not caused by a scarcity of food but by a scarcity of democracy." They advocate for recognizing food as a powerful starting point for solving some of our planet's most significant challenges.
Anna Lappé is a respected author, educator, and sustainable food advocate, recognized by *Time*'s "eco" Who's-Who. As a founding principal of the Small Planet Institute and the Small Planet Fund, she has been a key force in the international movement for food chain sustainability and justice for over a decade.
Her latest book, *Diet for a Hot Planet: The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do About It* (Bloomsbury), was named one of the year's best environmental books by Booklist and Kirkus.
Farmers Brandon Mazur and Stephanie Moore, who met at Pacific University's school garden, co-founded Good Natured Gardens. This small organic farm on Sauvie Island, near Portland, focuses on producing clean, fair, and fresh vegetables and herbs. Brandon also discusses the importance of small farms and community support for new farmers in a video.
Dedicated to positive land cultivation, they help the community grow their own gardens, aiming to inspire creative, just, and tasty ideas. They believe change starts at the root level, encouraging others to plant seeds for a better future.
